The Reds Will Not Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy In the Face of Recent Slump, Insists Arne Slot
Arne Slot has announced that the club's hierarchy agree with his assessment regarding the team's slump and he will not abandon their attacking style in pursuit of a turnaround. The head coach admitted that six losses in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Pressure Mounting During Tough Spell
Slot accepted the pressure was on before his makeshift team suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he maintained that this urgency to stop the losing streak is not coming from the team's proprietors or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.
"Our views align," remarked the manager, whose team next week face Real Madrid in the continental tournament and play against the Citizens in the Premier League.
Player Depth Remains Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are completely available and completely set for the programme we are facing". He noted that the recent signings in talents including Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in an excellent position for the immediate prospects and the distant prospects".
Integration Challenges
When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "You don't really help me. 'Why, why, why?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could list 200 excuses
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- Unfortunately six out of seven
Defensive Numbers
Only Burnley (21) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The league leaders, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and claims there is no justification to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after 10 games without a clean sheet.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I see no justification to change our playing style entirely but we need to do better in keeping clean sheets," he declared.
Specific Instances
"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? Versus the German side when we were ahead by two goals, we scarcely gave up a effort at our net. In every match we played until now we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Not at all. We do allow a slightly more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't believe that our issue is that we give up too many openings. Our challenge is we don't score the chances we create."
