The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna described Celtic as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I have a unique job here at a special team. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Context and Agreement Details

It has been suggested that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they were, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was questioned about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he replied. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always do my best as while I remain in position."

Bellamy's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to complete the current World Cup campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Victories over the minnows and their rivals in November would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful European competition campaign, should they not end up their group runners-up.

Considering his current position, the Wales manager, whose contract concludes after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
