Both Deceased Students Revealed in the Ivy League School Attack as Police Persist in Manhunt for Gunman.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their assailant carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual of interest in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted condolences publicly, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a 24-year-old male taken into custody in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The assailant opened fire inside a room in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that entered the inn seized a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, a single scholar was discharged from care, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in critical but stable condition, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.
